The purpose of the HigherEd Ministry is to assist individuals in their pursuit of a post-secondary education. This year we are pleased to announce six competitive scholarship opportunities being made available to the members of Agape Family Worship Center (AFWC). They are:

  • The Tonyell McDay Computer Science Scholarship: a $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in the computer science field. This gift is given from the family of Sis. Tonyell McDay, a computer science major, who was among those who perished in the attacks on the World Trade Center.
  • The Willie Lee Jones Trade Industry Scholarship: a $1,000 tuition scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who will be pursuing an associate degree or certificate at an accredited vocational-technical training school after graduation. This scholarship is named in memory of Deacon Willie Lee Jones who served in leadership at Agape and worked in the transportation industry as a truck driver.
  • The Barbara Owens Hayward Service Scholarship: a $1,000 tuition scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior or current college student who demonstrates outstanding leadership and service in his/her school or community. This scholarship is named in memory of Minister Barbara Owens Hayward who was the founder of the Agape Children’s Church and Drama Ministry. She was also a dedicated teacher in the public school system.
  • The Clinton & Jacquelyn Miller Educational Fund: a $500 scholarship will be awarded to two students majoring in teacher education. This gift is given in memory of Sis. Jacquelyn Miller, who was a longtime educator in the Elizabeth public school system. It also honors her husband, Bro. Clinton Miller, who has been a teacher in the Elizabeth public school system for 40 years.
  • The Agape Scholars Book Award: up to $500 will be awarded to a limited number of individuals to help defray the cost of textbooks. Students must be degree-seeking candidates who are full-time or part-time students enrolled in, or accepted to, an accredited university, 4-year or community college at either the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • The Ishmael Cotton Christian College Scholarship: up to $500 will be awarded to one student attending a Christian College. This gift is given in memory of Bro. Ishmael Cotton, who was a faithful and dedicated member of Agape and AOC. Ishmael was passionate about pursuing his college education. He aspired to attend seminary and enter the ministry. High school applicants must have a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average.
